Advantages of Insoles
Last Updated 8/15/2009

People grow older, it’s a fact. Whether we like it or not, all of us must accept that each day’s activities, the wear and tear of our daily lives, has a cumulative affect on our bodies. When we’re younger and healthier, those affects go largely unnoticed. However, as we enter our late twenties, early thirties, we begin to realize that many of the physical activities that were once enjoyed in our youth, ( sports in particular) are no longer fun.

The repeated stresses of running, jumping and even just walking can result in foot, knee and back problems that continue to cause pain or discomfort even after physical activity has been ceased. But what about when we have to go back to work , or to the store? It seems only natural that aging reduces our athletic  abilities, common sense right? But what if the cause of your individual aches and pains was caused by something less nefarious than aging? What if the major contributor was actually something as simple and easy to overlook as your shoes?

I know that to some that sounds like an oversimplified and possibly commercial response, but hear me out. When we buy shoes, whether their intended use will be athletics, office wear or casual attire, most of us spend more time considering how they look: will they go with this outfit; how do they look on me ? How many actually stop to wonder: will these provide adequate comfort for my feet, while supporting the arch and heel areas specifically? Not many, right ? There are even fewer when you consider that most of the shoes that provide the correct support for the foot, look just like the shoes your sweet gray haired grandmother wears everyday. This leaves many with the question of form vs. function: do we buy shoes that compliment our style, or do we sacrifice style in favor of support and function?  The answer : shoe insoles. Adding insoles to your shoes allows you to avoid the question of form or function; style vs. support.

This means that the shoes that best suit our own individual style can become the shoes that best suit or feet. Insoles come in varying degrees of thickness and support, allowing each individual to add both arch support and comfortable padding to almost any pair of shoes. This not only provides stability for the foot’s arch as we run or walk, but they also serve to soften the individual impacts on the heel and instep of the foot. But the best point of all may very well be that you get to wait until you’re grandma’s age before you have to wear grandma’s shoes.
